Introducing the Cisco Cius: a Business Professional’s Tablet Device!

On June29, 2010 Cisco revealed their latest gadget for the business user on the go…the Cius: a fully connected, on the go, tablet by Cisco.  Apple started a revolution, yet again, by introducing the world to tablet computing, and Cisco does not want to be left behind.  The Cisco Cius aims to be the professional tablet, offering on the go web video conferencing, virtual desktop capability, 3G/4G capabilities, and the use of the Google Android operating system.

The device itself is very compact, weighing in at only 1.15lbs.  Unlike the iPad, the Cius has a removable, 8 hour, rechargeable battery.  The Cius has 2 cameras, one front facing and one rear facing that are capable of audio and video web conferencing.  Users can join or initiate web conferencing using Cisco TelePresence solution for conferencing.  Integrated into the Cius is Firefox for web browsing.  Instant messaging, visual voicemail, and email is all standard in the Cius.  Being built on the Android operating system means the Cius can connect to the Andorid Market Place to download applications tailored to take advantage of the features the Cius has.
