Choose Oracle NetSuite if your Australian business needs one system for finance plus inventory, order management, warehousing or e-commerce, and you want Australian hosting and a large local partner network. Choose Sage Intacct if your organisation is a finance-led group, such as a professional services firm, a family office, a not-for-profit or a multi-site services business, that mainly needs fast multi-entity consolidation, dimensional reporting and strong GST and BAS preparation, and runs its operations in other systems. Neither product runs Australian payroll natively, and neither lodges a BAS directly with the ATO in the documentation we reviewed. The better choice depends on how much of your business you want the ERP to run beyond the general ledger.
Both platforms are sold in Australia through local partners, and both are serious options for finance teams outgrowing Xero or MYOB. This guide compares them for Australian CFOs, financial controllers and finance directors, using vendor documentation, Australian government sources and named partner pricing. If you want the US perspective on the same two products, see our US comparison of NetSuite and Sage Intacct. This article covers what changes for an Australian buyer: GST and BAS, AUD pricing, payroll under Payday Super, hosting and local partners.
Key takeaways
- Sage Intacct is sold and localised in Australia. Sage launched it here in August 2019, and its Australian help documentation covers GST tax solutions, BAS calculation, Reduced Input Tax Credits and TPAR.
- Choose Sage Intacct if consolidation, intercompany eliminations and management reporting are the main reasons you are replacing your accounting system.
- Choose NetSuite if you also need inventory, warehouse, order-to-cash or e-commerce processes in the same system as the ledger.
- Budget for third-party Australian payroll with either product. NetSuite SuitePeople Payroll is US-only, and Sage Intacct documents no Australian payroll; Employment Hero publishes an integration for Sage Intacct.
- Neither vendor publishes AUD list pricing. One Australian Sage Intacct partner publishes annual subscription estimates from about $20,000 to $90,000 plus support, and NetSuite partners state there is no price list.
- Oracle’s current NetSuite data centre datasheet lists Sydney and Melbourne. Sage does not publish a hosting region for Australian Sage Intacct customers, so ask your partner in writing where your data will sit.
Is Sage Intacct available and localised in Australia?
Yes. Sage launched Sage Intacct in Australia in August 2019 with eight certified local partners, including Akuna Solutions, Alphasys, Aptus, Forpoint Solutions, Guintabell, Microchannel, Progressive Business Technologies and Resonant Software Solutions (Accounting Today, 29 Aug 2019). Sage still markets the product on its Australian website and features Australian customers such as Queensland Ballet, Perich Group and INX Software (Sage Australia, no date shown).
Some buyers are unsure because Sage sold part of its Australian business. In June 2021 The Access Group completed its acquisition of Sage’s Australian HandiSoft accounting, MicrOpay payroll and WageEasy payroll products (The Access Group, 1 Jun 2021). Sage Intacct was not part of that sale, and Sage continues to sell it in Australia. The practical consequence is that Sage no longer offers its own Australian payroll product to pair with Sage Intacct.
The Australian localisation is documented in Sage Intacct’s region overview. It describes an Australia GST standard tax solution with automated tax rate setup and tax invoice templates, BAS calculation through Sage Regulatory Reporting, support for Reduced Input Tax Credits, Taxable Payments Annual Report tracking for contractor payments, and bank payment files in regional formats (Sage Intacct Help, Australia region overview, 25 Sep 2026). The same page lists New Zealand and Singapore tax solutions as Early Adopter programs, which matters if you run trans-Tasman entities.
GST, BAS and ATO lodgement
Both products prepare an Australian BAS, and neither documents direct lodgement with the ATO. Sage Intacct’s help page on submitting taxes tells Australian users to take the BAS figures from the generated PDF and lodge through an online portal, a registered agent or a paper form. The same page shows that direct electronic submission is available for some other countries, such as the United Kingdom and Germany, but not for Australia (Sage Intacct Help, 1 Oct 2026).
NetSuite documents a Business Activity Statement report built with its Tax Reporting Framework, covering GST sections, PAYG withholding amounts and the summary owed to or refundable by the ATO. The documentation does not describe a lodgement method (Oracle NetSuite Help, BAS, no update date shown). NetSuite’s ANZ Localization SuiteApp adds Australian document templates, the Taxable Payments Annual Report and the Payment Times Report (Oracle NetSuite Help, ANZ Localization, no update date shown).
The ATO states that only SBR-enabled software can lodge a BAS directly (ATO, 24 Apr 2026). In practice, most finance teams on either product will prepare the BAS in the ERP and lodge through Online services for business or their tax agent. Your choice should rest on how well each system captures GST correctly at the transaction level, which both document, rather than on lodgement.
Multi-entity consolidation and reporting
Consolidation is the main reason Australian finance teams shortlist these two products together, and it is where Sage Intacct makes its strongest case. Sage states that Sage Intacct can consolidate hundreds of entities in minutes and automate eliminations, adjustments and reporting (Sage Australia, no date shown). Its global consolidations datasheet describes automated intercompany eliminations at the point of consolidation, automatic exchange rate updates and cumulative translation adjustments (Sage datasheet, 2022). The datasheet describes this against US standards (ASC 830), so confirm with your partner how the configuration maps to AASB 121 for your group.
Sage’s Australian case studies support the consolidation claim with named organisations. Storage King, which operates more than 200 company-owned, investor-owned and franchised locations, reports that its reporting days fell by around 30% after moving to Sage Intacct (Sage, Storage King case study, no date shown). Perich Group, an Australian family office, reports that monthly report preparation fell from one week to one day (Sage, Perich Group case study, no date shown). These are vendor-published results, so treat them as examples rather than benchmarks.
NetSuite OneWorld handles the same problem inside a broader ERP. Oracle’s Australian site describes real-time consolidation at local, regional and global levels, support for more than 190 currencies, and tax reporting that records the tax effect of intercompany transactions (NetSuite Australia, OneWorld, no date shown). The difference is less about whether each product can consolidate and more about the rest of the system. With NetSuite, intercompany sales orders, inventory transfers and fulfilment can sit in the same platform as the consolidation. With Sage Intacct, those operational transactions usually arrive from another system. For a wider view, see our guide to multi-entity ERP in Australia.

AUD pricing and total cost
Neither vendor publishes Australian list pricing. Sage’s Australian page states that Sage Intacct pricing is tailored to your organisation’s size, industry and needs (Sage Australia, no date shown). Oracle does not publish NetSuite prices, and Annexa, an Australian NetSuite partner, states that there is no price list because NetSuite is not sold as an off-the-shelf product (Annexa, updated 21 Sep 2026).
For Sage Intacct, Leverage Technologies, an Australian partner that sells the product, publishes indicative AUD estimates. It lists annual software of about $20,000 for a low-complexity SME, $50,000 for a mid-market business and $90,000 for large or complex entity structures, with annual support of $4,000, $8,000 and $12,000 respectively. It estimates implementation at $40,000 to $50,000, $50,000 to $60,000 and $75,000 or more for the same three tiers (Leverage Technologies, 20 Aug 2026). These are one partner’s estimates, not Sage list prices.
For NetSuite, Annexa explains that cost depends on edition, service tier, industry package, user count and the implementation model (Annexa, updated 21 Sep 2026). We found no Australian NetSuite partner that publishes a comparable full-ERP annual figure. For the published partner figures we could find, see our NetSuite pricing guide for Australia and our assessment of whether NetSuite is worth it.
A fair comparison needs the same scope on both quotes. If your NetSuite quote includes inventory, order management and e-commerce, and your Sage Intacct quote covers only finance, the Sage Intacct number will look lower, but you will still need to buy and integrate operational systems. Add payroll software and its integration to both quotes before you compare them.
Australian payroll, STP Phase 2 and Payday Super
Neither product gives you Australian payroll inside the ERP. Oracle documents that SuitePeople Payroll supports United States payroll taxes only (Oracle NetSuite Help, checked 6 Oct 2026). Sage Intacct’s Australian region overview does not mention payroll at all (Sage Intacct Help, 25 Sep 2026), and Sage sold its Australian payroll products to The Access Group in 2021.
For Sage Intacct, Employment Hero publishes an integration that posts payroll journals into Sage Intacct after each pay run and syncs leave data, chart of accounts mapping, tax codes, classes and departments (Employment Hero, no date shown). Employment Hero and Sage announced the partnership for Australian businesses in January 2024 (CFOtech Australia, 16 Jan 2024). The STP reporting and super payments happen in the payroll system, not in Sage Intacct. NetSuite provides a Paycheck Journal feature that partners use to build international payroll integrations (Oracle NetSuite Help, checked 6 Oct 2026), so Australian NetSuite customers also run payroll in a separate system.
This matters more since 1 July 2026. Under Payday Super, employers must pay super guarantee contributions with each pay cycle rather than quarterly, and the money must reach the employee’s fund within seven business days (ATO, 10 Aug 2026). Your payroll provider must handle this, and your ERP needs a reliable daily or per-pay-run journal feed so that super liabilities and cash reconcile. Ask both partners to show you that integration working with your payroll provider before you sign.
Hosting, data residency and partners
Oracle announced plans for Australian NetSuite data centres in 2017 (IT Brief Australia, 26 Apr 2017), and Oracle’s current NetSuite data centre datasheet lists Melbourne and Sydney among its Asia-Pacific locations (Oracle NetSuite data centre datasheet, 2025, no day shown). Sage does not publish where Australian Sage Intacct customers’ data is hosted. Its sub-processor list names Amazon Web Services for Sage Intacct data hosting but gives only the sub-processor’s location, the USA, rather than a hosting region (Sage, Customer due diligence, sub-processor list June 2025 to June 2026, checked 6 Oct 2026). Sage has announced a local Sage Intacct presence in Canada (Sage, 25 May 2021), but we found no equivalent announcement for Australia. If data residency matters to you, ask Sage or your partner to state the hosting region in writing.
The ATO does not require records to be stored on Australian servers. It requires records to be kept in English, or be readily convertible to English, and to be accessible when requested (ATO, 18 Jun 2026). Local hosting is still a common board, customer or government-contract requirement, so if your organisation has one, it is a real point in NetSuite’s favour until Sage confirms otherwise.
Both products are sold and implemented by partners. ERP Research lists 34 NetSuite partners in Australia (ERP Research, checked 6 Oct 2026). Its Sage directory for Australia mixes Sage products and includes firms based overseas, so it does not give a reliable count of local Sage Intacct partners (ERP Research, checked 6 Oct 2026). Ask any partner for two Australian Sage Intacct or NetSuite references of a similar size and entity structure to yours. For implementation planning, see our NetSuite implementation guide for Australia.
Our independent take
For an Australian finance team, this decision usually comes down to scope. Sage Intacct is a finance system with good Australian GST and BAS preparation and strong consolidation, and it is a sensible choice when the CFO owns the project and the operational systems are staying in place. NetSuite is a full ERP, and it makes more sense when you want to retire separate inventory, order and billing systems at the same time.
The gaps are similar on both sides. Neither runs Australian payroll and neither lodges your BAS directly, so plan for both. Sage Intacct’s main unanswered question in Australia is hosting, and NetSuite’s is price, because no partner will give you a firm figure until you go through a scoped sales process.
Australian buyer scenarios
A Sydney professional services group with nine entities. A consulting firm with about 180 staff across Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland runs project delivery in a separate PSA tool and consolidates nine entities in spreadsheets each month. The CFO wants faster close and better entity and practice reporting. Sage Intacct fits this profile well, because consolidation and dimensional reporting are the core requirement and the operational systems stay in place. The team should confirm the status of the New Zealand tax solution, which Sage lists as an Early Adopter program.
A Melbourne wholesale distributor with three entities. A distributor turning over about $60 million holds stock in two warehouses and sells through a B2B portal. It needs inventory, purchasing, fulfilment and consolidation in one system. NetSuite is the better fit here, because Sage Intacct does not offer the warehouse execution and multi-location inventory depth that a distributor needs. See our guide to ERP for wholesale distribution in Australia.
A Brisbane not-for-profit with grant-funded programs. A charity with about 120 staff, several program entities and strict grant reporting wants dimensional reporting by program, funder and location. It already uses Employment Hero for payroll. Sage Intacct is a strong candidate, because its dimensions and the published Employment Hero integration match the requirement. The finance team should still confirm the hosting location if any government funding agreements require Australian data storage.
When NetSuite is not the right choice
NetSuite is not the right choice if your project is finance-only and you do not plan to move inventory, orders or billing into the ERP. You would be paying for, and implementing, a broader platform than you need. It is also a poor fit if you need a firm budget early, because neither Oracle nor its partners publish a price list. If your business is a smaller single-entity company still running well on Xero or MYOB, read our guide to outgrowing Xero and MYOB before committing to either product.
When Sage Intacct is not the right choice
Sage Intacct is not the right choice if you hold significant stock, run warehouses or manufacture products. Acumatica, a competing ERP vendor, states that Sage Intacct does not offer deeper supply chain, warehouse execution, manufacturing or production control (Acumatica, 8 May 2026). That source sells a rival product, but it matches Sage’s own positioning of Sage Intacct as a financial management system. It is also a weaker fit if your organisation requires documented Australian data hosting, because Sage publishes nothing on this, or if you want a single vendor for payroll, which Sage no longer provides in Australia.
Alternatives to both
If Australian payroll inside the ERP is a firm requirement, MYOB Acumatica documents native STP Phase 2 support (MYOB Enterprise Support, 25 Sep 2024). See our NetSuite vs MYOB Acumatica comparison. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is the other common shortlist option and publishes AUD pricing, which we cover in NetSuite vs Business Central for Australia. Our best ERP software in Australia guide compares the wider field.
How we evaluated
We reviewed each vendor’s Australian documentation for GST, BAS, TPAR, consolidation, payroll and hosting, and recorded the date shown on each page. We used ATO pages for statutory obligations and named every partner or competitor source, noting where the source sells one of the products. We did not accept vendor funding, and neither vendor reviewed this article. Where we could not verify a fact, we say so in the text.
Frequently asked questions
NetSuite vs Sage Intacct: which is better for finance?
For a finance-only scope, Sage Intacct is often the stronger fit, because its design centres on the general ledger, consolidation and dimensional reporting, and its Australian localisation covers GST, BAS calculation, RITC and TPAR. NetSuite is better when finance needs to sit in the same system as inventory, order management and billing. Neither includes Australian payroll.
Which ERP system is best for financial consolidation?
Both handle multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation with automated intercompany eliminations. Sage Intacct is the more focused option for groups whose main problem is consolidation and reporting, and Sage publishes Australian examples such as Storage King and Perich Group. NetSuite OneWorld is the stronger option when intercompany trading, inventory transfers and fulfilment also need to run in the ERP. For other options, see our multi-entity ERP guide for Australia.
Is Sage Intacct sold in Australia?
Yes. Sage launched Sage Intacct in Australia in August 2019 through local partners, and Sage continues to market it on its Australian website. The 2021 sale of Sage’s Australian HandiSoft, MicrOpay and WageEasy products to The Access Group did not include Sage Intacct.
Can either system lodge my BAS with the ATO?
Not directly, based on the documentation we reviewed. Sage Intacct generates a BAS PDF for you to lodge through the ATO portal, a tax agent or a paper form. NetSuite generates a BAS report but does not document a lodgement method. Only SBR-enabled software can lodge directly (ATO, 24 Apr 2026).
What payroll should I use with Sage Intacct or NetSuite in Australia?
You need a third-party Australian payroll system with either product. Employment Hero publishes a Sage Intacct integration that posts payroll journals and syncs leave. Whatever you choose, confirm that it supports STP Phase 2 and Payday Super, which has required super to be paid with each pay cycle since 1 July 2026.
Which is cheaper in Australia?
Neither vendor publishes AUD list prices. One Australian Sage Intacct partner estimates annual software at about $20,000 to $90,000 plus support, with implementation from $40,000 (Leverage Technologies, 20 Aug 2026). NetSuite pricing is quote-only. Compare quotes with the same scope, including payroll and any operational systems you will still need.
Does Sage Intacct host data in Australia?
We could not find a Sage statement on where Australian Sage Intacct customers’ data is hosted. Oracle’s 2025 NetSuite data centre datasheet lists Sydney and Melbourne. The ATO does not require Australian hosting, but your board, customers or funders may, so ask Sage or your partner to confirm the hosting region in writing.
