Both are credible Australian mid-market picks — the decision hinges on pricing model, payroll, and how much ecosystem you want around the product.

1. How ugly is your payroll? Salaried office staff: the add-on route is routine, pick on other factors. Awards-interpreted shift work at scale: MYOB Acumatica’s native engine is worth real money — count what the Business Central payroll add-on costs to licence, integrate, test and support before comparing totals.
2. How many users, really? Business Central charges per user; MYOB Acumatica’s consumption model doesn’t. If you want warehouse staff, field crews and the factory floor in the system, unlimited users changes the economics — run both models at your true headcount, not the licence count you first budgeted. (This is where most of the quotes I see go wrong.)
3. Who implements, and who’s behind them? Business Central’s bench is deep enough to swap partners mid-life without changing systems, which is genuine risk control. MYOB Acumatica’s bench is thinner but the vendor is local and accountable. Interview two partners per product (the interrogation checklist) and weight the people you’d actually get.
Verdicts: Choose Business Central if payroll is simple, you value ecosystem depth and Microsoft-stack alignment, and per-user pricing fits your structure. Choose MYOB Acumatica if AU/NZ payroll complexity is a driver, you want everyone in the system without per-seat maths, or its industry editions (manufacturing, construction) fit your operation natively. Both sit in the broader field in the full Australian comparison.

It’s Acumatica’s platform licensed and localised by MYOB for Australia and New Zealand — with native ANZ payroll and compliance MYOB builds and supports locally. Global Acumatica content mostly applies; the payroll and localisation layer is MYOB’s own.
At small user counts, usually Business Central. At high headcounts with warehouse and field staff included, MYOB Acumatica’s consumption pricing often wins. Model both at your real five-year usage, and remember Business Central quotes need the payroll add-on included to be comparable.
Through certified add-ons and connected payroll products rather than natively; it’s a workable, common arrangement, but one that must be scoped, priced and supported as its own workstream (details in the compliance matrix).
