Dynamics GP End of Life: Dates, Deadlines and Your Migration Options (2026)

The short answer

Dynamics GP is ending on a published schedule, and half the advice online still cites the wrong date. Here is the official record and what to do with it.

  • The dates (Microsoft-published): new perpetual sales ended 1 April 2025; new subscription sales ended 1 April 2026 — both already past. Product support (enhancements, tax updates, technical support) ends 31 December 2029 — note: extended from the originally announced 30 September 2029. Security patches continue to 30 April 2031, then nothing.
  • What that means concretely: after 2029 there are no more payroll tax tables, no 1099 updates, no support tickets; after April 2031 your system is frozen, permanently.
  • The default path: Business Central, with Microsoft’s migration tooling and the current Bridge to the Cloud 3 promo — 30% off for three years, sign-up window 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027.
  • The discount already shrank once: the previous promo (now closed) was 40%. Waiting has a published price.
  • Scale check: GP-to-BC projects run ~$15,000–$75,000 for typical SMBs (up to $250,000+ at complex mid-market), over roughly 10 weeks to 8 months.

The official timeline

Date What happens Status
30 Sept 2024 QuickBooks-style cutoff begins: Microsoft announces GP retirement schedule Past
1 April 2025 No new GP perpetual licenses sold Past
1 April 2026 No new GP subscription licenses sold Past
31 Dec 2029 End of product support: enhancements, regulatory/tax updates (incl. payroll and 1099), technical support 41 months away
30 April 2031 Final security patches. After this: frozen

Your four realistic options

Option Cost evidence Watch-out
1. Business Central (Microsoft’s path) $15,000–$75,000 typical SMB migrations; $50,000–$250,000+ at complex mid-market; 10 weeks–8 months. Licenses $80–$110/user/mo. BTTC3: 30% off for 3 years GP history arrives as a read-only snapshot, not native transactions — the most misunderstood fact in GP migration
2. NetSuite Official GP-switcher program; base ~$999/mo + ~$129/user; median contract $74,817/yr (observed) No published switcher discount — negotiate deal-by-deal
3. Sage Intacct / Acumatica Both run official GP campaigns; Intacct typically $25,000–$35,000/yr; Acumatica from $6,396/yr, unlimited users Same: campaigns exist, discounts unpublished
4. Stay on GP with third-party support Community providers pledge support “beyond 2031” No provider can issue official payroll/1099 updates after Microsoft stops; the pledge is marketing, not a contractual SLA we could verify

Our call: if you run US payroll or 1099s in GP, option 4 has a hard ceiling of December 2029 no matter what a support provider promises — the regulatory updates stop being produced.

Bridge to the Cloud 3: the current incentive

  • The deal: 30% off Dynamics 365 online licenses for three years, on a locked term via a CSP partner.
  • The window: 1 January 2026 – 31 December 2027.
  • Eligibility: perpetual Dynamics license bought before 1 September 2024, active Enhancement Plan at enrolment, no prior Bridge-to-the-Cloud participation. After the three years, pricing reverts to standard list.
  • The trend: BTTC2 (closed December 2025) was 40%. The incentive is shrinking as the deadline approaches, not growing.

What actually migrates to Business Central

  • Automatically (Microsoft’s tooling): chart of accounts (segments become dimensions), customers, vendors, inventory items with quantities, open AR/AP, open purchase orders, checkbooks, 1099 data (2024 onward), and GL summary balances.
  • As read-only snapshot only: detailed GP history — queryable via SmartLists in BC, but not native transactions you can post against.
  • Not at all: your GP customizations — partners report 40–70% get replaced by standard BC features or ISV apps rather than rebuilt.
  • Tool prerequisites: GP 2015 or later, and the migration tooling is supported in the US, Canada, UK and Australia only.

HOW WE RESEARCHED THIS

All lifecycle dates come from Microsoft’s own pages (the Dynamics GP lifecycle terms page and Microsoft Lifecycle database), fetched 8 August 2026 — including the extension of support from 30 September to 31 December 2029, which much of the partner ecosystem still cites incorrectly. Bridge to the Cloud 3 terms were cross-confirmed across three independent Microsoft partners quoting Microsoft’s promo policy; the Microsoft-authored PDF itself sits behind a distributor login, so confirm eligibility with a partner. Migration scope comes from Microsoft’s official tooling documentation; cost ranges are partner-published and we show the spread. Install-base estimates vary so widely (18,000–68,000 companies across data vendors) that we cite none as fact. No vendor sponsored or reviewed this page. Full method: how we evaluate software.

Frequently asked questions

When does Dynamics GP support end?

31 December 2029 for product support, enhancements, tax updates and technical support — extended from the originally announced 30 September 2029. Security patches continue until 30 April 2031. Both new-license sales cutoffs (April 2025 perpetual, April 2026 subscription) have already passed.

Can I keep running GP after 2029?

Yes, and after April 2031 too — the software doesn’t stop working. What stops is everything around it: payroll tax tables, 1099 updates, security patches, official support, and a shrinking pool of GP consultants. For companies running payroll in GP, 2029 is the practical deadline.

How much does a GP to Business Central migration cost?

Partner-published ranges span $15,000–$75,000 for typical SMB migrations and $250,000+ for complex mid-market scope — the spread is real, driven by customization count and history requirements. Fixed-scope packages start around 10 weeks end to end.

Do I have to move to Business Central?

No — it’s Microsoft’s recommended path with the tooling and the 30% incentive, but NetSuite, Sage Intacct and Acumatica all run official GP-switcher programs. The honest sequencing: decide your target the same way you’d pick any ERP, then use whichever incentive applies.
