Adobe Flex is an application development software solution that builds web apps for browsers, desktops and mobile devices. The program assists users throughout the coding process by providing strong typing, inheritance and user-friendly interfacing tools. Users can then choose to connect app features to pieces of equipment on mobile devices, such as GPS, cameras and local databases. During the testing process, the system puts apps through a number of simulated native mobile environments that can emulate user experiences. The product carries an enterprise-class IDE, and users can debug apps at any point during the testing process. Lastly, Adobe Flex is in open beta.
Adobe was founded in 1982 by John Warnock and Charles Geschke, in order to develop and sell the PostScript page description language. Adobe has become one of the largest software companies in the world and their Creative Suite, which includes Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, has become so popular that it is almost synonymous with the desktop publishing market. Through a number of acquisitions which include Omniture, Business Catalyst, Demdex, Macromedia, Efficient Frontier, GoLive and Syntrillium, Adobe has been able to extend its product lines past desktop publishing to include web conferencing, digital marketing, content management, website analytics and more.
